The Model 5 6062 0010 Wide Mouth AirBand pneumatic band saw with stainless steel housing and planetary gearbox from CS Unitec uses 43 cfm of air at 90 psi to cut pipe, conduit, bolts, cable, angle iron, I-beams and structural steel. It has a cutting capacity of 8 inches round or 9- by 8-inch rectangular when used free hand.

“It can cut 4- and 6-inch gas pipe very quickly,” says Scott Saunders, regional manager for CS Unitec. “It’s portable. You can go in the field. One person can make a cut. You don’t need two or three guys helping him out. So that’s a savings.”

The 35-pound saw with 1.3 hp variable-speed motor is safe to use around water and is ATEX certified for hazardous environments (EXII2GcT5), reducing the need for hot zone work permits. It has a variable blade speed of 4.0 to 4.9 fps. Saw blades are made of M42 steel with 8 percent cobalt for heat and wear resistance.

“One big thing for safety is this band saw has covers on both sides,” Saunders says. “There’s really no way for a wheel or tire to injure the operator. All that is exposed is the blade that does the cutting.”

Made in Germany, the 30 3/4-inch saw has a 1/2-inch NPT air connection and can cut steel, stainless steel, Inconel, chrome, Hastelloy, aluminum, copper, iron, fiberglass, plastics and wood. Applications include heavy-duty sub-sea cutting, offshore oil, refineries, chemical plants, marine and demolition industries.

The same tool is available in electric, 6-amp, 110-volt, 3.0-7.4 fps or hydraulic with a 1.6 hp, 2,000 psi at 4 gpm, 4.2 fps blade speed versions. 800/700-5919;
