Kalmar RT Center completed the last of 1,244 RT240 rough-terrain container handlers to fulfill its contract with the United States Department of Defense.

The RT240 operates in the world’s most remote locations where roadways are unfinished or non-existent. This allows military troops to move and store containerized defense equipment in parts of the world where former logistics prevented it.

Fulfilling the military contract has opened up capacity for manufacturing commercial vehicles for sale locally and worldwide. The only difference between the military and commercial grade RT240 is paint color. The commercial grade RT240 will still have the ability of transporting a 56,000-pound container in lengths of 20 or 40 feet, at grades of up to 27 percent, and can operate in up to five feet of water.

“The Kalmar RT240 Rough-Terrain Reach Stacker increases productivity in ways never imagined,” says Randy Wingenroth, vice president of product and business development. “We are bringing the efficiencies learned through a decade of improving logistics for the U.S. military and sharing it with the world.”

In Kalmar’s research and development over the last 12 years, attachments have been designed to stretch across several industries, including a forklift kit and sling attachment allowing the RT240 to carry more than just containers. Innovation is one of Kalmar’s core values, and the teams of engineers on staff are continually developing the capability of the versatile machine.
